I’m Roy McBurney. I live in Sydney, where I lead research and development.
I'm a hardworking, forward thinking problem solver. I adapt to unpredictable environments and manage a wide range of tasks, and I keep the big picture in view while I watch the small details.
I started as a research chemist. As a post-doctoral researcher at St Andrews and Glasgow, I studied how to make organic radicals with photocatalysts, and I led EvolvX, a spin-out company of five people that used genetic algorithms to search for a better anti-inflammatory peptide drug.
At the University of Strathclyde I bought £11.4m of scientific equipment for the Centre for Continuous Manufacture and Crystallisation, the largest equipment purchase the university had made. I also represented the centre at a Royal Opening. Then I moved to Sydney as a Research Fellow at Macquarie University.
Since 2017 I've worked at the University of Sydney, first coordinating major research grants, then supporting research across the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. In 2022 I became Head, Research and Development. I listen well, I talk to many kinds of audience, and I enjoy both team work and working on my own.
